Feature or bug

Post by Ruud » 11 May 2011 16:36

Hello Jacques and everybody on the forum,

Thank you for another beautifull update. I noticed that there is a difference between version 3.9.9 and 4.0 in the projection of barbs. When 'Wind arrows on Grid Grib' is selected, the number of barbs does no longer change with zooming. I'm not sure if this is a feature or a bug, but prefer the way previous versions handled it. There are screendumps at these url's.

Hello,

Nor bug nor feature ;)

You are comparing 2 differents grib files, one at the resolution of 0.5°, one at the resolution of 1°.
Look at the settings selected before to click on the download button.

Hello Jacques,

Thank you for your reaction. I am afraid that the explanation is not so simple because both files were 0.5 degree indeed. Just to be sure, I repeated the experiment by loading one and the same grib file in both versions. The screendumps show what happen.

In fact, I don't understand where is your problem. There is no change and no bug (in this part ;)).
I presume you made a confusion between different visualization modes and files parameters.

See these 2 images, all with arrows on grib grid, and with resolutions of 0.5° and 1°.
All is correct (measure distances between arrows if you are not sure).

Resolution 0.5°

Resolution 1°

Hi

Thanks for another release of zygrib, It was very expected, especially for the new features. I am having the same problem as Ruud, the problem is not the resolution, the problem is that in the previous version even if you check the "Wind arrows on Grid Grib" when your are working with a big area, for example the Western Atlantic, the wind arrows change with every zoom until you reach a small area and then only shows the wind arrows at grid point. In 4.0 version if you check the "Wind arrows on Grid Grib" and visualize a big map, zygrib draw an arrow for every grib point and is impossible to see anything. I hope that you understand my explanation translate in english.
