Post by borisb » 08 Jul 2010 21:46

Hello,

I want to use the amazing zyGrib in Norway. Unfortunaly, opening the very useful http://retro.met.no/data/maritim/DNMI-NEurope.grb
always results in an error (Can't open file).

Kind Regards,

Boris

Hi,
Sorry, I don't understand norvegian ;)
It seems interesting, but before to decide to trying to read these files in zygrib, I need more information about the meteo center, and all you know about the data contained in the grib and the file availability.
Thanks,
A+

Hello,

the grib can be opened with ExpeditionLT and OpenCPN. I am suprised that OpenCPN works, because it seems to base on zyGrib.

Kind Regards,

Boris

OpenCPN uses a very old version of the zyGrib decoder. :(

At now zyGrib do not display grib file from unknown source, because there are a lot of suspicious grib file on internet,
and it could be potentialy dangerous for users.
By default, I prefer reject files from unknown origine.

I repeat: more information about this grib file editor is needed before to try to modify zyGrib to accept them.

that's interesting - I was not aware of this!

The issuer of the file http://met.no/English/English/ is the honorable Norwegian Meteorological Institute. I think they are very trustworthy.

There is a link from yr.no http://www.yr.no to this and some very useful grib files on http://www.yr.no/verdata/1.5338672 - you can get the English translation at http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... F1.5338672 .

Kind Regards,
